John Kowalski was born in Gatineau(QC)

in Canada. Started in photography in

high-school using his brother's 35 mm

camera. His parents were teachers

in high-school and he was able to

borrow darkroom equipment during

summer holidays to explore photography.

In College he signed up for a photography

class as an elective where he learned

more about basic composition and

darkroom techniques.

Popular shooting subjects were family

members, friends at school, music

concerts, animals and landscapes,

he even did a few weddings but admits not.

He liked experimenting with home made pinhole cameras and spending a lot of time in the darkroom. He always had a keen interest in nature, spent a number of summers working on his uncle's farm. Up until 2002 most of the photography was of family events, recording the life and times of the kids growing up, but in 2002 he purchased his first digital camera, a Nikon Coolpix 5700 with which he discovered macro photography. In 2007 he moved up to a digital SLR camera, the Nikon D80.
